We would love to welcome you! When you become a member, you join a friendly, supportive community of people who share a love of gardening and a commitment to caring for our town. Together, we learn from one another, work side by side, and steward five community gardens and a public horse trough that bring beauty and vitality to our shared spaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Not at all! The NHS is a "friendly group of garden lovers" that welcomes all levels of experience. Whether you are a Master Gardener or someone who just bought their first houseplant, our goal is to provide a space where you can learn and grow. Many members join specifically to learn from our expert speakers and the collective wisdom of the group.

  • Meetings are typically held on the second Tuesday of the month from October through May. Most gatherings take place at the Newburyport Senior/Community Center (located at 331 High Street). Doors usually open around 6:15 PM or 6:30 PM for socializing and refreshments, followed by an educational program or guest speaker.

  • Annual dues are currently $40 per year Your membership covers:

    • Admission to all monthly speaker programs.

    • Exclusive access to the Members’ Garden Tour in June and the Harvest Dinner in September.

    • Subscriptions to the monthly newsletter and "Carole’s Hints."

    • A voting voice in the Society’s civic and charitable initiatives.

  • Yes! Guests are always welcome to attend our public programs for a fee of $10 per meeting. This is a great way to "test the soil" and see if the group is a good fit for you. If you decide to join that same night, your $10 guest fee can be applied toward your full annual membership dues.
