Frequently Asked Questions
-
No! While our projects focus on the city of Newburyport, we welcome "garden lovers" from all across the North Shore and Seacoast regions. Our membership includes residents from Amesbury, Salisbury, West Newbury, and beyond.
-
We don't have a single headquarters; instead, our "office" is the entire city! We meet monthly at the Newburyport Senior/Community Center, and our work is visible at public sites like the Clipper City Rail Trail, Bartlet Mall, and Waterfront Trust Park.
-
As of 2026, annual membership dues are $40. Our membership year runs from January 1 to December 31. If you join between September and December, dues are reduced to $20 for the remainder of that year.
-
Yes. The NHS is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Because your dues support public beautification and education, they are generally tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
-
Absolutely! Guests are welcome at our public program meetings for a $10 guest fee. If your friend decides to join the Society that same evening, their $10 fee will be applied toward their $40 annual membership.
-
Meetings usually begin with a brief social period (with refreshments!) followed by Society news. The highlight is always our Expert Speaker Series, where professionals present on topics ranging from climate-wise gardening and composting to floral design and "armchair tours" of historic New England estates.
