Gardening with Dahlias, Betsy Szymczak
Someone once said that peonies are the “Show Girls” of the spring garden; with dahlias, it’s all about late summer-early fall “Royalty”! Following a brief history of the discovery of dahlias, you will learn how to select dahlia tubers, where to plant, how to water and fertilize. To stake or not to stake, to dig or not to dig – these are the questions! If you dig tubers, how to store, overwinter, and then how to wake them up and perhaps make cuttings. A discussion of American Dahlia Society Classification and how to enter a dahlia show will follow. Betsy grows almost 100 dahlia varieties and is a member of the American, Connecticut, New England and Yankee dahlia societies.

Establishing a Home Herb Garden, Kathi Gariepy
Herb gardening has been popular for centuries but herbs were not grown solely for culinary use, as we think of them primarily today. Herb gardens took care of the family by providing herbs for medicine, herbs for dying cloths, herbs to keep the clothes and house fresh, and many other uses. We will explore the world of herbs and take a look at a modern-day herb garden. Owner of the garden design company Pleasant Vistas, Kathi is a Lifetime Master Gardener with the MA Master Gardener Association.
